Am I the only one who thinks kickers get run wrong on stairs?
I helped a guy redo a staircase in Salem two weeks ago, and he wanted the kicker glued and stapled flat against the riser on every step. That holds fine at first, but once that riser shrinks a hair in winter you get a gap you can see from the bottom landing. I run mine tucked under the tread nose with a little slack so the stretch pulls from the top step instead of splitting the seam. Anyone else here had a stair job come back on them over kicker placement?
Tucking under the tread nose is the way to go, that flat glue and staple trick always pops a gap once things dry out. I've had good luck leaving just a touch of slack so the stretch comes off the top step instead of blowing out the seam.
