Shoutout to the old timer at the lumber yard in Tulsa who taught me to check every board
Back in 2019 I was picking up a load of 2x4s at a yard in Tulsa and an old guy named Ray watched me grab the first stack I saw. He told me to flip every board and look down the edge before it goes on the truck. I rolled my eyes but did it anyway, and I pulled 9 bad boards off that pile in about 15 minutes. Now I check every single one, even when the crew is waiting on me and giving me looks. The yard guys hate it but my framing has way fewer gaps and callbacks than it did before that day. Ray passed a couple winters back and I still think about him every time I run my hand down a board. Where did you all pick up your best habits, and was it from a person like that or just trial and error?
