Hot take: hitting 10,000 board feet of lumber in one year isn't actually impressive
I hit that milestone last month and honestly it felt empty. Everyone in my shop acts like it's some big deal, but all it really means is I spent way too much time ripping down 2x4s for framing jobs. I'd rather take my time on furniture pieces that use maybe 200 board feet each and actually look good. Quality over quantity you know? All those big numbers just mean more waste and more mistakes in my experience. Am I wrong for thinking this whole board foot counting thing is overrated?

30,000 board feet and most of it was crap I'd never show anyone.

Honestly, Elizabeth's 30,000 figure just proves the point even more. That's like what, 150 standard 2x4 studs or a whole bunch of plywood sheets that nobody will ever see again once the drywall goes up? Tbh, my dad's old boss bragged about hitting 40,000 one year, but half of it was just framing for a subdivision that got torn down ten years later. Ngl, if you're just cranking out utility lumber for houses that'll be remodeled in 20 years, what's the real point of tracking it? It's not like anyone's going to be proud of a pile of stud grade pine in 50 years.
