Debate: do you fix a mistake on the job or start over fresh?

I was building a deck in Portland last month and cut a joist 2 inches too short because I misread the tape. I ended up sistering in a scrap piece and it held fine, but it still bugs me looking at the patch. Would you have ripped out the whole thing or is a repair good enough?

Calculate how much time you saved vs how much it bugs you every summer.

You ever screw up so bad on a job that your own patch job haunts you like a ghost? I once drilled a hole for a pipe through a floor joist that was dead center instead of the top third. Looked like I was trying to ventilate the basement with a straw. Ended up patching it with a steal plate and some lag bolts, but every time I walk in that room I feel like the joist is judging me. For the deck, I'd say sistering is fine as long as it's not gonna collapse under a keg of PBR.
