Appreciation post: the 6 foot level I almost threw away

I picked up this aluminum 6 footer at a garage sale in Toledo for $8 about 2 years ago. It looked rough, vial bubbles were cloudy, edges all dinged up. I almost tossed it in the scrap bin last spring. Then I needed a straight edge to check a long run of ledger board and grabbed it out of habit. That thing is dead flat, within maybe 1/64 over the whole span. My newer 4 footer has more flex than this old beast. Now I keep it in the truck for all the long layout work. Anybody else got a beat up tool that turned out to be the most reliable thing in the box?

Oh man, that's the best kind of luck! My grandpa's old rusty framing square looks like garbage but it's honestly more accurate than anything I've bought new, and I don't ever see myself getting rid of it now.
