Busted my tailgate trying to haul a fort to a friend's house last weekend

Was near Boise. Had this massive three story fort. Took me and the kids two weekends to build. Loaded it in my truck, drove 10 miles. The whole thing collapsed before I even got to the highway. Now I only build forts in sections. Max 4 feet wide each. Straps and cardboard corners are a must. Anyone else haul forts somewhere and watch them fall apart?

Strapped mine down with twine once thinking it'd hold. Watched the whole thing slide off my truck bed going 45 mph. That cardboard corner trick is smart, I've been using old pool noodles cut in half to cushion the edges. Wish I'd known about sections sooner, would've saved me a angry call to a neighbor whose fence got wrecked.

Did you really think twine would hold a fort through 10 miles of Idaho back roads? @robert248, I admire the optimism but that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Pool noodles are clever though, I might have to steal that idea. My last load shifted so bad I had to pull over and reorganize three times before I gave up and just left half of it on the side of the road. At least your neighbor's fence is safer now.
