Got ditched at a food truck pod in Portland, so I joined a random birthday party instead of going home
My friends bailed on our Saturday plans last minute with some excuse about a dog getting sick, so I was stuck in Portland with a parking spot I already paid $12 for. I decided not to waste the trip and walked over to the food truck pod on Hawthorne, where this group waved me over because they thought I was part of their buddy's surprise 30th. I told them I wasn't, they said who cares and handed me a plate of tacos, and I ended up staying for 4 hours playing cornhole with strangers. Now I'm torn on whether crashing a party is genius or super weird, what do you all do when plans get canceled and you're already out?
My track record with canceled plans is just going home and eating cereal over the sink like a sad sitcom character. Last time my buddy flaked I drove 25 minutes to a movie theater, stood in the lobby, realized I didn't want to watch anything alone, and drove back. So you walked into a stranger's birthday, ate their tacos, and dominated at cornhole for 4 hours? That's not weird, that's a skillset. The other option was sitting in your car with $12 parking and regrets. You picked right.
