That $8 thrift store lantern outlasted my $60 one

Three summers ago I bought a fancy LED lantern for $60 at an outdoor shop in Denver. Last week it finally gave out after the switch corroded on a rainy trip near Estes Park. I dug out this old coleman-style lantern I grabbed from a thrift store for $8, and it fired right up after a quick wick trim. The funny part is the cheap one throws a warmer light and the hiss is actually relaxing at night. I keep seeing reviews online that say you need to spend big for reliability, but my experience says otherwise. Has anyone else had a budget piece of gear outlast their premium purchase? I'd like to hear if I just got lucky or if this is more common than people admit.
