I finally fixed my tent leak with a cheap tarp trick from a ranger at Yellowstone

Last summer at Yellowstone the rain came down so hard my seam sealant gave out on day two. A ranger named Dave showed me to put a cheap blue tarp UNDER the tent footprint, not over it, to stop groundwater wicking up through the floor. It worked Perfectly for the rest of my 5 day trip. Has anyone else tried this or do you use something different for wet ground?

Dave up at Yellowstone knows his stuff. I did the same thing on a rainy trip in the Smokies and it kept my floor bone dry the whole time.

Yeah that's a solid tip right there. I've been using that same trick for years on my rig, and it's saved me from soggy carpets more times than I can count. Just make sure you spray it on thick around the seams and let it cure for a full 24 hours before you put it to the test. I've tried a few different brands but the one Dave sells at Yellowstone has always held up best for me on long hauls through heavy rain.
