Hit 100 nights in my hammock setup before ever touching a tent.
Everyone told me I'd eventually give in and buy a proper ground tent, but I actually prefer hanging, even in the rain. Has anyone else stuck with a setup that the gear snobs look down on?

Oh man, I just read an article about how hammocks are actually better for your spine than sleeping on the ground! It talked about how hanging reduces pressure points and helps with back pain. I've been using my camping hammock for like three years now and never looked back. The gear snobs always say you need a full tent setup with a sleeping pad and everything, but I've stayed totally dry in some nasty storms with just my tarp and bug net. Plus it's way faster to pack up in the morning, which means more time for actual hiking.
