Was cleaning a 1978 Canon AE-1 and found the shutter curtain is made of titanium foil

Read it in the original service manual from my shelf. Anyone else run into unexpected materials in classic gear?

That "common mix-up" you mentioned is why I love digging through old manuals. People remember the fancy tech from the pro models and it bleeds into stories about the cheaper ones. Makes you wonder what other small details get lost over time.

Actually, the AE-1 shutter curtain is cloth, not titanium. The titanium foil was used in the Canon F-1, the pro model from that time. It's a common mix-up because they're from the same era. The AE-1's manual might mention titanium in a different section, like the body frame. Still cool to find those old details in the paperwork though.
