TIL you're supposed to pull the prism housing before soaking an OM-1 in lighter fluid, learned that one the hard way on a $90 eBay body
Spent two hours last Saturday chasing haze on a 50mm f1.8 that turned out to be balsam separation, not fungus, and I only caught it when a loupe at Jim's shop in Akron showed the rainbow edge under the element, so now I hold every lens to a desk lamp before quoting a clean, but what's your go-to test for telling the two apart?

Oh man that rainbow edge under a loupe is such a tell, I've been burned by that exact thing before. Do you ever use the tap test where you flick the barrel and listen for the rattle, or is the loupe pretty much your one and done? Curious if the balsam ones ever look like fungus under a cheap UV light for you, because they sure do for me.
