Called busted digicams hopeless, then the e-waste pile changed my tune
I used to tell clients to toss their old digital cameras when they acted up, thinking repair wasn't worth it. Then I visited a recycling center and saw mountains of electronics, including tons of cameras. I grabbed a few to tinker with and found most just had dirty lens assemblies or bad solder joints. Now I take time to fix even the cheap point-and-shoots that come my way. It keeps plastic and heavy metals out of the ground, which feels way better. I've saved hundreds of cameras from the dump by now, and my shop gets known for it. Customers are stoked to keep their memories alive without buying new. Honestly, seeing that waste pile firsthand is what flipped my view for good.

Hold up, that's really cool you fix cameras now! But I gotta say, not EVERY old camera can be saved. Some have broken parts like batteries or screens that you just can't find anymore. So even with fixing, a bit of waste might still happen. But what you're doing is still AMAZING for the planet. Keep it up, just don't want folks thinking it's always an easy fix.

Ever notice how that's true for most old tech now?
