Hit a hidden gas line at a job off Maple Street in Westbrook last month (not my finest moment)
I was trenching for a new fiber drop and bam, right into a 1/2 inch gas line. Nobody marked it, not even the utility locate service. Now I always hand dig the first 2 feet around any old marker flags. Anyone else dealt with close calls from bad utility locates?

You had the utility locate service come out and they still missed it? That's a real problem. Around here they mark the main lines but sometimes skip the service lines running into houses. I've seen guys hit lines that way more than once. Hand digging that first couple feet is smart, I do the same now after a close call a few years back.
