Warning: dropped $340 on a used dovetail jig that was missing its template guide
Bought a used Porter Cable dovetail jig off a guy in Sacramento for $340, thought I got a deal since new ones run over $500. Got it home and the template guide was missing, along with two of the four corner chisels. Ordered replacements and by the time I was done I was in it for almost $480, which is more than new. Tried cutting my first set of pins that night and the spacing was off because the previous owner had swapped in a guide from a different model. Ended up boxing it and driving 90 minutes back to return it, only got $300 because he said I scratched the base. Lesson is bring the manual and check every single part before cash changes hands. Has anyone found a decent checklist for buying used jigs so I don't get burned again?
