A retired guy's comment about my drawer slides stuck with me

I was installing pantry cabinets in a remodel outside Austin last spring, and this older fellow watched me put in soft-close slides for an hour. He said, "Son, I built kitchens for 40 years and never once had a customer ask for a drawer that closes itself," then he walked off, and I've thought about that every time I order hardware since. Anyone else get advice from a customer that made them question how they work?
