My buddy at his auto shop had the same exact thing happen. They bought this top of the line system that was supposed to track every single part. The guys spent more time typing in serial numbers than actually fixing cars. It was a total mess for like six months before they just went back to the old clipboard method. Felt like they just lit that money on fire for a slower work day.

Sounds like they bought a bad system, not that the idea itself is bad. Good tracking should make things faster, not slower.
