Our morning huddle was eating 40 minutes a day until we tried 10 minute stand-ups
Last month our ops team in Austin was losing almost an hour every morning to these long status meetings where half the room zoned out. I timed it for a week and we were averaging 38 minutes, with 12 people in the room that is like 7.5 hours of lost work every single day. So we switched to standing up, no chairs, 10 minutes on the clock, and only talk about stuff that is blocked. Three weeks in our on-time shipping rate went from 84 percent to 96 percent and nobody misses the old meetings. Has anyone else tried hard capping their stand-ups and did it stick once the newness wore off?
We tried the standing thing at my old job in Denver and I lasted about two weeks before I started leaning on the wall like a bored teenager. Turns out I'm really good at finding something to prop myself up on. The 10 minute cap is the part that actually matters though, the standing just makes you want it to end faster.
