Pro tip: That feedback about my grocery budget actually helped
I used to think the whole 'meal plan before you shop' thing was overhyped. But last month my cousin told me I was basically burning $60 a week on random snacks and stuff I never cooked. I got annoyed at first but I tracked it for 2 weeks and she was right. So I started making a basic list on Sunday nights for 3 dinners and 2 lunches. It cut my weekly total from about $115 down to $75 and I'm not tossing out wilted veggies anymore. Has anyone else had a family member call them out on something that actually stuck?

What's the deal with the random snacks though... like those little bags of chips and cookies that just disappear before you even realize they're gone? I think everyone's got that one relative who can see right through our spending habits. Once my sister pointed out I was buying the same three condiments every week even though I already had a full bottle at home. It was humbling but now I check my pantry before I go to the store and that alone saved me like $20 a month. Kinda makes you wonder what else we're all sleepwalking through spending on.

The condiment thing hits way too close to home. I once found three jars of pickles in my fridge, all opened, all with one pickle missing from each. My brain just kept buying them thinking they were empty but nope. Now I keep a sticky note on the fridge door that says "you already have pickles, idiot" and it actually helps.
