I was sure the 'cash envelope' thing was just for people who can't use a debit card...
My friend in Denver kept telling me to try it for my food and fun money, so I put $200 cash in an envelope for the month. I'm only two weeks in and I've already spent way less on impulse buys because seeing the money go makes it feel real. Has anyone else had a category where cash just clicked for them?

Honestly, I felt the exact same way about cash for gas money. Swiping a card at the pump felt like nothing, but handing over actual bills made me wince. I started doing it last year and it totally cut down on my extra little drives for no reason. Tbh, watching that envelope get thin by the third week was a real wake-up call.

Oh man, @reese997, you're so right about the envelope thing. I read this article a while back that called it the "pain of paying" and it's totally real with cash. Swiping a card is just a future problem, but you feel those twenties leave your hand right now. It makes you stop and ask if you really need that trip for snacks. My gas spending got way more real when I tried it too, it's crazy how much we don't notice.
