Can we talk about the time my grocery budget went off the rails?

I was at the supermarket last Thursday, and my total came to $147, which was $47 over my weekly food budget. I had grabbed a lot of fancy cheeses and a cut of steak without checking the price per pound. I put back the steak and two of the cheeses, which brought my total down to $98. Has anyone else had to do a last-minute cart edit to stay on track?

That strict list idea is a game changer. I started writing down exactly what I need before I even get to the store. No more just grabbing that fancy cheese or the expensive chips because the package looked cool. My cart looks boring now, but my bank account doesn't.
