That $40 portable camping stove that barely boiled water
I bought a cheap butane stove for a weekend trip to Yosemite, thinking it would save me from paying for overpriced camp meals. The thing took 20 minutes to get a cup of water hot enough for instant coffee. Anyone else find a specific budget item that actually made your trip harder instead of easier?

Bought a $15 tarp that ripped the first time I tied it down in wind. Had to sleep under a leaky tree that night. Learned you really do get what you pay for with gear.
