Rant: a hostel clerk in Lisbon told me my packing list was the problem, not my budget
I used to fly carry-on only but stuff it so full that I paid $65 in overweight fees on a flight to Lisbon last spring. The guy at the front desk watched me repack on the floor and asked why I brought 6 shirts for a 10 day trip. I cut it down to 3 quick-dry shirts and one pair of pants, and now I never pay a bag fee at all. The trick was doing laundry in the sink every 3 days instead of packing for every possible day. Has anyone else had a stranger call out their packing habits like that?
Why do strangers feel free to comment on your luggage in the first place? That said, the clerk had a point, since most people pack for the trip they wish they were taking rather than the one they booked. The real fix was the sink laundry, packing for 3 days and repeating is what actually killed the fees.
