Pro tip: A local in Prague called my 'budget' strategy a waste of money
I was bragging about saving $5 a night by staying at a hostel way outside the city center. A guy at the bar just shook his head and said, 'You're spending that $5 and an hour of your day each way on the tram. Your time is worth more.' He was totally right. I moved to a slightly more expensive but central spot for the rest of my trip and saved so much time and transit cash. Has anyone else had a budget move backfire because you didn't factor in time?

Depends on the trip honestly. Sometimes that hour on the tram is part of the fun, just watching the city go by. Not every minute has to be a hyper efficient tourist checkmark. If you are only there for two days, sure, stay central. But for a longer trip, a quiet neighborhood can be a nice break from the crowds. Calling it a total waste seems a bit much.
