Missed my 6AM bus in Bangkok because I trusted a free wifi hotspot for my e-ticket

Was in Bangkok last month, needed the early bus to Chiang Mai. My hostel wifi was down so I ran to this coffee shop with free wifi. Pulled up my ticket email, screenshot it, thought I was good. Got to the station at 5:45 and the gate says no booking under my name. Turns out the coffee shop wifi was a fake login page and my email never loaded, I just saw my inbox list from cached data. Missed the bus, paid 400 baht extra for a van that left 2 hours later. Now I always download a PDF of every ticket the night before and keep it in my phone files, no wifi needed. Anyone else get burned by free wifi at a travel hub? Has this happened to you too?

...and honestly, I’m gonna play devil’s advocate here. Free wifi is free for a reason, you gotta treat it like a sketchy back alley, not a reliable source for anything important. You trusted a random hotspot with a whole bus ticket, that’s kinda on you, not the wifi. Next time just screenshot the email before you even leave the hostel, lesson learned the hard way but still.
