Pro tip: stop buying $200 soundbars, a $40 pawn shop receiver and two thrift speakers beat mine
I spent $180 on a name brand soundbar last spring and the dialogue in every movie sounded like it was coming through a tin can, so I gave up on it by June. Last Saturday I walked into a pawn shop off Division Street in Portland and grabbed a used 5.1 receiver for $40, then found a pair of old bookshelf speakers at Goodwill for $12 each. I hooked it all up in about 20 minutes with plain speaker wire and ran the setup mic, and now my living room sounds like a real theater for less than half what I paid for the bar. The bass is not going to shake the walls, but I can actually hear what people are saying on screen, which is the whole point. Anyone else ditched the soundbar route and gone used, or am I the only one late to this?

Wait, are you telling me my $180 soundbar was basically a glorified Bluetooth speaker this whole time? Because I did the exact same thing as you and just assumed good dialogue was a myth, lol.
