My neighbor told me to skip the pre-cut veggies at the store
She said buying whole carrots, celery, and onions and cutting them myself would save a lot. I was skeptical because the pre-cut bags looked so easy. Last week I checked the price for a bag of chopped carrots versus a whole bunch. The whole bunch was about half the cost for the same amount. I spent maybe five extra minutes with a knife and saved about three dollars. Has anyone else found a simple prep step that really adds up over time?
Totally agree with you @mitchell.mark, switching to the block was a game changer. It feels like the pre-shredded stuff is half sawdust anyway. You're right about it lasting way longer in the fridge too. The taste difference is just night and day, especially for something simple like a grilled cheese. Once you make the switch there's just no going back.
