My neighbor in Phoenix told me to water my new cactus every day in the summer
She said it would help it grow faster, so I did that for about two weeks. The base started to get soft and look kind of brown. I looked it up and found out I was basically drowning it. Has anyone else gotten really bad plant advice from a friend that almost killed something?

Every day in Phoenix summer heat? That's the opposite of what a cactus wants, they're built for dry spells. How did your neighbor keep any plants alive giving out advice like that?

Wait, your neighbor was telling people to water cacti daily in Phoenix? That's a death sentence for them. @max_foster is right, they store water for droughts. My cousin killed a perfectly good barrel cactus that way, it just turned to mush. How did this person not have a yard full of dead plants?
