My entire batch of heirloom tomato seedlings got leggy and fell over last week
I started these seeds indoors back in early March, following the packet instructions to a tee. I had them under a basic shop light setup in my basement, thinking it was enough. The problem was I didn't adjust the light height as they grew, so they stretched way too much looking for it. By the time I noticed, the stems were super thin and they just flopped over. I tried staking them with toothpicks and string, but it was too late for most of them. It's a real bummer because I was really excited for these 'Cherokee Purple' tomatoes. So here's the debate: some people say leggy seedlings are a lost cause and you should just start over, while others swear by burying the stem deep when you transplant them outside. What do you all think is the best move when this happens? Has anyone actually saved a batch of super leggy starts?

Cherokee Purple" in your BASEMENT? That's your whole problem right there.

Basements can work if you've got the right setup. Good lights and a fan make all the difference. What are you using for yours?
