The week my book club chose a 900-page doorstop
My book club picked a massive historical novel for last month. 850 pages about 18th century shipping routes. I got 200 pages in and realized nobody else finished it either. Our debate turned into a therapy session about guilt and library fines. Has anyone else's club picked a book way too long for a month?

My pile of shame currently holds four books from three different book clubs, all abandoned somewhere between pages 50 and 300. Last year we picked a biography of a dead explorer and I swear the library emailed me twice about renewing it. The funny thing is we all showed up to discuss it and spent the whole hour talking about how we'd rather watch the movie instead. I finally learned my lesson and now I check the page count before I vote on anything. If it's over 400 pages, I suggest we pick something else or I just quietly skip that month.
