Pro tip: A simple note card system saved our book club debates

I got tired of our debates turning into everyone talking at once without listening. We now give each member a note card to jot down their main point before speaking. This small step makes people think first and cuts down on repeat comments. Our meetings are much more thoughtful and productive because of it.

Might accidentally lose those good, spontaneous reactions though...

Totally get what you mean about spontaneous reactions, but this method actually SAVED our group. We tried the note card thing after one too many meetings where two people dominated the whole chat. It forced our quick thinkers to slow down and gave our quiet members a real chance to get their thoughts out. Honestly became a game changer for making sure we actually hear each other. The good spontaneous stuff still happens, it just happens after everyone's had a minute to think.
