Our club's poetry night pick made me face a truth about how I read
Last month our book club in Tulsa chose a verse novel for the first time and I kept skimming every page, then someone asked what I thought of the rhythm and I drew a blank, that's when I realized I'd been reading everything like a text message for the last 5 years. I never paused on sentences or let words echo, I just hunted for plot points and moved on. Does anyone else catch themselves speed-reading discussions books and how do you force yourself to slow down?
