Our club picked a 600 page book and only 3 people finished it by meeting night
Last Tuesday my book club met at a diner in Portland to talk about a 600 page novel we picked back in January. Only 3 of the 11 members got past page 200, and two of them admitted they skimmed the last 100 pages just to say they were done. Our rule has always been that whoever picks the book hosts the talk, and she spent 40 minutes defending chapters nobody else had read. I brought up switching to a page cap of 350 after this, and you would think I suggested canceling the club entirely. One guy said the whole point is the challenge, but I do not see the challenge in staring at the same page for three weeks. How does your group handle it when a pick is just too long for most people to finish?
