That weld I did last Tuesday cracked clean in half overnight

I was patching up a crack in a pressure vessel at the plant outside Gary. Ran a perfect root pass with 7018 rods, hot pass looked clean too. Came back Wednesday morning and the whole thing had a hairline fracture running through the middle of my weld. Foreman just stood there shaking his head and said 'you gonna fix that or what?' I ground it out and redid it with preheat this time, took an extra 2 hours. Must have been a chill in the steel or the rods weren't dry enough. Any of you guys run into a crack that shows up the next day out of nowhere?

Bet your rod oven was set too low, I've seen damp 7018 do the same exact thing.

Man that's rough, I feel for you. Damp rods are the worst when you're trying to get a clean weld done. Hope you get it sorted out without too much hassle.
