Blew a tube sheet weld on a 60 inch boiler in Gary and had to chase it for 4 hours
I was fitting a new tube sheet on a 60 inch firetube boiler in Gary last month and my root pass on tube 14 blew through about a quarter inch past the joint. I killed the arc, let it cool, ground it back down to sound metal, preheated the area again and ran a slower stringer with less heat, which held fine on the recheck. What do you all do when you blow through a sheet like that, do you grind and rerun or cut the tube out and start fresh?
