Rant: My game group argued for an hour about setup rules for Gloomhaven

We spent 45 minutes reading the book and checking forums, but then my friend just downloaded the official helper app. It cut our setup time from over an hour to about 20 minutes by handling all the monster cards and stats. Does your group use apps for heavy games, or do you stick to the physical pieces?

That "over an hour" setup time is the real final boss. We tried the app for Mage Knight once, but the guy running the tablet kept accidentally ending phases. Now we just accept that the first thirty minutes of game night is just us sorting cards in silence.

Honestly we had the same tablet problem. Tbh the best fix was just putting the tablet in the middle of the table where everyone could see it. That way if the phase was ending early, someone else could yell "wait" before the next card got flipped. Ngl it turned setup into a group job instead of one person's headache. Still takes a while, but at least we're all messing it up together now.
