I brought Catan to a family reunion and my 12 year old cousin wiped the table
I figured teaching Catan to my cousins at the reunion in San Antonio last summer would be a quick warmup since none of them play board games. My 12 year old cousin won three games in a row by hoarding sheep and cutting off every trade route I had. Turns out new players who ignore "normal" strategy are the hardest to beat. Has anyone else gotten crushed by a first timer?

Totally get it. I always figured experience wins out, but watching a kid with no clue what he's "supposed" to do wreck everyone made me rethink that whole idea.
