Watched the first season of 'Severance' and everyone keeps missing the point of the break room scenes.

My friend said they were just filler for tension, but that's not it. They're the whole key to the show's control system. The showrunner said in an interview last month that the repetition breaks a person's will to resist. It's not about scaring you, it's about resetting your brain. Anyone else catch a detail that changes how you see a show?

Nah, it's more about the shame than the breaking.

Finally, someone gets it. The break room isn't just torture, it's a perversion of therapy. They make you confess a bad feeling, then punish you for having it. The goal is to make your own inner life feel like a crime. That's way scarier than just yelling at someone.
