Found a trick for watching shows with bad audio mixing

I got tired of missing dialogue in shows like Tenet and The Batman where the music drowns out everything. Cranking volume just made the action scenes hurt my ears. So I tried turning on subtitles and lowering the volume to a comfortable level for quiet parts. It sounds weird but now I can actually follow the story without jumping for the remote every 5 minutes. Has anyone else done this or found a better way to handle shows that mix sound poorly?

Actually it's not the mixing that's bad on Tenet. Christopher Nolan intentionally did that for the time travel vibe.

Yeah but even if it was intentional, the dialogue in Tenet is straight up buried in a lot of scenes. I rewatched it on a proper home theater setup and I still had to crank the center channel like crazy. Nolan has been doing this since The Dark Knight Rises honestly, I think he just prioritizes the sound design score over people being able to catch every word.
