Took 45 minutes to move a 3 foot branch out of the bike lane
Yesterday on my ride through Capitol Hill, a storm had snapped a big branch right across the painted bike lane by the park. I hopped off to drag it to the grass, figured it was a 90 second job. But the thing was heavier than it looked, maybe 60 pounds, and the curb was slick with wet leaves. I ended up having to break it into three pieces with my hands and kick each chunk under a bush. Total time from stop to rolling again: 45 minutes. Meanwhile, five cars just drove around through the bike lane like it was totally normal. Has anyone else become an unofficial debris remover on their commute?
Nailed it right up until I realized my bike shorts were basically camouflage for the wet leaves I sat on to take a break. Guess I'm the unofficial arborist now, just with worse credentials and a lot more cursing.
