I finally figured out why I keep getting doored on 4th St, and now I can't tell if I'm the problem
Rode down 4th St near the library last Tuesday and got doored for the third time in 5 months. I always hug the parked cars because I thought it kept me out of traffic, but a guy behind me on a cargo bike said I was riding right in the door zone the whole time. He told me to take the lane instead, about 3 feet out from the cars, and it felt terrifying but nobody honked once. So is taking the full lane the right move, or am I just asking to get run over? Curious what you all do on streets with no buffer.
What made you doubt the cargo bike guy after nobody honked the whole ride? That silence should tell you something about where you actually belong on that street.
