Found out my city's bike lane stripes are actually illegal
Was riding down 5th Street in Portland last Tuesday when a traffic cop pulled me over to chat. Turns out our bike lanes are only 3 feet wide when the city code says they need to be 5. Anyone else ever measure their lanes and find out they're getting cheated?

Whoa wait, a cop actually pulled you over just to measure your bike lane? That's wild. I mean, I've heard of cops being sticklers for traffic stuff but getting out a tape measure for a bike lane is a whole new level. Three feet versus five feet is a huge difference, like you can barely fit a handlebar in three feet without clipping a parked car mirror. Honestly that makes me wonder how many other cities are just painting lines wherever they feel like it and hoping nobody notices. I'd be mad if I was pedaling in a lane that's basically a painted suggestion.
