That customer who corrected my spoke tension technique, I still think about it 3 years later

A guy in a full team kit watched me true a wheel and said 'you're gonna fatigue the nipples pulling from both sides like that', so I switched to one side at a time, and now my wheels stop coming back for truing after 200 miles, has anyone else had that sink in weirdly late?

Wait, is that actually a thing? Because I spent years doing the cross-pull method, thought I was being clever balancing tension, and never once questioned it. Then a shop guy mentioned the same thing to me after I rebuilt a rear wheel, said the brass nipples get work-hardened and start cracking at the threads. I laughed it off at the time, but sure enough, my next few builds held true way longer when I went one side, let it settle, then the other. Now I even do it for rim brakes, not just discs. Funny how the simplest advice sometimes takes three years to actually sink in.
