Tried a #4 guard on a kid I usually do a #2 on
A mom asked me to go longer on her 10-year-old and I figured it would look sloppy. But the extra length let the hair lay better and it actually looked cleaner than the short cuts I've been pushing. Anyone else get better results going longer on certain head shapes?

Cowlicks always lay better with a four guard.

Cowlicks are a perfect example. The shorter you go the more they stick up like they're trying to escape. Same thing happens with my own hair if I buzz it too short it looks like a mess. But a little length lets everything settle down and follow the natural shape. It's kind of like how a rug with a weird lump just needs a little more padding underneath instead of trying to flatten it out. Going longer gives the hair room to breathe and do its thing. Sometimes fighting against what the hair wants to do just makes everything worse.
