Talked to an old school barber in Detroit about clipper maintenance last Tuesday

I was at a shop in Detroit last Tuesday waiting for my buddy to finish his cut. One of the older guys there, been cutting 40 years, saw me cleaning my clippers with canned air. He told me to stop doing that. Said it actually pushes the dust deeper into the motor over time. He showed me how he uses a soft brush and a drop of oil on the blades after every 3 cuts. I tried his method for a week now and my clippers run way quieter. Has anyone else been told canned air is bad for clippers or is it just me?

Oh yeah, canned air is a total scam for clippers, I learned that the hard way when my old pair started sounding like a lawnmower. The brush and oil trick is legit, I do it after every cut now and my blades last way longer before needing replaced.

That "sounded like a lawnmower" bit got me. My buddy Dave used canned air on his Wahl clippers for years and then complained they kept snagging in his hair. I finally convinced him to just take the blade off and brush out the gunk with an old toothbrush, then oil it. He called me a week later surprised his clippers ran smooth again, said he felt dumb for wasting money on those cans.
