My mentor in Tampa pointed out I was holding my clipper wrong for tapers

He watched me work for a solid 15 minutes before stopping me. I was gripping the clipper like a hammer, which was making my wrist stiff and my lines less fluid. He showed me to hold it more like a pencil, with my fingers doing the guiding. That small change made my wrist movements way smoother. Anyone else have a simple grip adjustment that made a big difference?

My buddy had the same thing happen with his shears... he was death-gripping them so hard his hand would cramp up halfway through a cut. His shop manager told him to relax his hold, like he was just letting the shears rest in his fingers. Sounds silly, but it totally changed his control and how long he could work without pain. That whole pencil grip thing makes so much sense for clippers too.

Oh man, that's so true... I was doing the exact same thing with my trimmers for fades. I'd get this white-knuckle grip and my whole arm would be sore after a few cuts. My barber told me to just pinch them lightly between my thumb and two fingers, almost like holding a paintbrush. It felt weird at first, but the lighter touch let me get way cleaner, softer blends without digging into the skin.
