Found a way to stop razor burn on thick curly hair

I was struggling with this guy who comes in every 3 weeks with super thick curly hair on his neck. No matter what I did he'd get razor burn bad. Finally I tried using a lighter touch and a single pass with the grain only, skipping the against the grain cleanup. Worked way better than I expected. Anyone else got a trick for this type of hair?

Hold on, my guy who comes in every 2 weeks has the same type of thick curly hair, and I tried that too but it didn't totally fix it for him. Maybe it's just me, but I found that using a pre-shave oil with a lighter touch helped way more, like a couple drops rubbed in before the lather. idk, it just seems to soften the hair enough that the razor doesn't tug as much on the first pass. I mean, your method is definitely a solid start, but if he still gets a little irritation, the oil might be the missing piece.

Man, you're out here dropping wisdom like it's a hot mic. Pre-shave oil, huh? I'll have to try sneaking a few drops into my guy's routine next time I'm over at his place, maybe he'll stop complaining about looking like a tomato after. I mean, your method's solid, but if it saves me from hearing another rant about razor burn, I'm all in.
