Changed my mind about self watering pots after 4 months on my Brooklyn balcony

Honestly, I thought self watering pots were just a gimmick for lazy gardeners. But after using them for my cherry tomatoes and basil since April, the difference in root health is night and day. My plants in regular pots needed water every single day in July, while the self watering ones only needed a refill every 3 days. Has anyone else seen better growth with the reservoir system or am I just lucky?

Wait till a heatwave hits and you get root rot from water sitting too long in that reservoir. Overwatering kills more plants than underwatering ever will.

@patricia_lee you're acting like a heatwave equals automatic root rot, it's not that dramatic lol.
