That time my lemon curd betrayed me at a backyard barbecue
I was thinking how baking was often more about sharing than showing off. At a barbecue, I tried to impress with homemade lemon curd tarts. The curd did not set right, so it was like soup in a shell. Folks dipped crackers in it, and we all laughed. It reminded me of my mom's kitchen where fails were just part of the process. Now, with all the fancy online recipes, we forget baking should be fun. I am happy that mess brought us closer, like old times.

Your story captures how the best memories come from imperfect moments. That soupy curd probably created more fun than a perfect tart ever could. Sometimes the pressure to make things look good takes the real joy out of it.

Oh man, my meringue once totally refused to get stiff! I just poured the runny mess over some berries and called it a sauce. Letting go of the perfect picture in my head saved the whole day. Those kitchen flops really do take the pressure off and make it about the people you're with.
