Rant: I was burning every batch of chocolate chip cookies until I checked my oven with a $7 thermometer
For two years I trusted the dial on my oven and every tray of cookies came out with black bottoms and raw middles. I finally bought a $7 oven thermometer at a hardware store in Reno and found out my oven runs 45 degrees hotter than it says. Now I set it to 305 instead of 350 and let it preheat a full 20 minutes before anything goes in. Same dough recipe, same cheap sheet pan, totally different cookies. Anyone else find out their oven was lying to them the entire time?
